What is wax denim, what are “toothpick” jeans and can a plus
size woman wear them? What about harem pants- trying to come back again? Can we
pull these trends off? Sometimes the trends aren’t worth keeping up with and
sometimes we see trends that we like but think maybe they don’t come in plus size clothing. With all the do’s and don’ts out there, what are the trends
that some of our favorite plus size fashionistas not only wear, but have rocked
over the past year?
Second-skin jeans, or “toothpick jeans” have been a strong trend for a few years and it sounds like something a plus size woman could never wear, but in fact, plus size jeggings in denim washes as well as trendy color washed jeans have been very popular for plus size fashionistas and are flattering as well as trendy. Bright colored plus size denim has been prominent on plus size blogs including colored jean jackets. The faux fur craze has also been popping up all over and celebs who want to stay green and most-likely popular, have been flaunting some pretty elaborate faux fur fashions. Most plus size women might feel intimidated by this trend or assume there wouldn’t be anything in their size, but the plus size faux fur vest has been a very popular and trendy layer for plus size women this year. The wrap dress, a plus size dresses favorite, is not as easy to pull off as one might think. This trend can be small, clingy and often too tight to seem possible for a plus size woman, but with better fabrications, smart designs and flattering constructions, the wrap dress is one of the most curve-loving styles of Spring 2012. While so far, the waxed jean has not quite made it to mainstream plus size clothing lines, faux leather and leather pants have made it, showing that real size women can rock the leggy looks as well as anyone. Oh, and forget about harem pants. So few in any size can carry them off, so unless you really really desire it, don’t bother.

Fashion fact from Jessica London:
Waxed denim is when there is a shiny finish on jeans created
by paint, beeswax, or a wax glaze coating. These can be a
popular alternative to leather pants because they have the same polished
appearance.
